The Ben "ben1337" Smith-led team are establishing their position at the top of tier two in North America.
Party Astronauts emerged victorious in iBUYPOWER Mythic Masters Winter 2021 on Sunday, defeating Extra Salt 2-0 in the grand final and securing the first place prize of $25,000.
The win comes after a run which saw the organization-less team defeat every other majority North American team at the event, including the Tarik "tarik" Celik-led mix Kings of Content.
The group stage of the event went off mainly as one would expect, although Kings of Content did score a series victory over MIBR in their opening game. Party Astronauts dominated RBG and then eased past tarik's mix to top Group A, and MIBR were able to recover from their initial loss and got revenge against Kings of Content to also advance to playoffs.
Group B saw Extra Salt take down both ATK and Bad News Bears to book their spot in the bracket stage, while Paytyn "junior" Johnson and company beat TeamOne in two close three-map series to advance in second place.
Party Astronauts continued their dominance in the playoffs as they defeated Bad News Bears in the semi-finals. Extra Salt easily took down MIBR themselves, setting up a rematch of the grand final of ESEA Premier Season 38 NA. Despite the roster change to bring in Ricky "floppy" Kemery for Aran "Sonic" Groesbeek, Extra Salt were unable to stop the onslaught of Josh "PwnAlone" Pigue's AWP, and fell in the final once again.
