Luminosity are the final team to make the playoffs of ESL One Cologne 2015, defeating FlipSid3 in a double overtime thriller 22-18 on de_cbble.
After triumphing in the elimination match over mousesports 16-14 on de_cbble, the Russian-Ukrainian team FlipSid3 headed into the final match of the day against the Brazilians of Luminosity. The map of play was once again randomly selected to be Cobblestone, making it by far the most played map at the event so far.
FlipSid3 opened up its T side with aggression and Yegor "markeloff" Markelov helped the team pick up the round in particular. In the next round however, impressive forcebuy play from Luminosity gave the latter team a momentum reversing round win.
From there, Luminosity entered the driver's seat on its CT side, only allowing FlipSid3 a single round in the next ten rounds of play.
Luminosity to remain "Legends"
On the 12th round, FlipSid3 finally answered back with the team's third round of the game, bringing much needed momentum to Andrey "B1ad3" Gorodenskiy and his men. This inspired the team to pull ahead with the remainder of its T-side, finishing the half with the score at 9-6 in Luminosity's favour.
FlipSid3 continued to press Luminosity to a score equalisation with a CT-side pistol win, marking both pistols for the team. Captain B1ad3 won a clutch situation on Luminosity's ensuing gunround, forcing a Brazilian pause. The pause helped Luminosity garner its first two rounds on the team's T side.
With the score 11-10 for Luminosity, the team narrowly survived losing the bomb in connector with Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo helping the recovery efforts. FlipSid3 won the next round on an eco thanks to the flanking efforts of B1ad3 as Luminosity executed onto B site.
This turnaround gave FlipSid3 the economy to continue buying and play defensive Counter-Strike, which Luminosity were unable to break down successfully until the 28th round, when a successful A-site take brought the score to 15-13 for FlipSid3.
Luminosity doubled down on patient play and managed to force overtime, the first round of which the Brazilian team then won. FlipSid3 answered back with the two final CT-side rounds, with B1ad3 once again playing a part in the defense.
In a mark of the levelheadedness of both teams, Luminosity pulled ahead by two rounds on their CT side to force match point, which FlipSid3 neutralised by taking the final round of the half and forcing double overtime.
Ricardo "boltz" Prass's defense on B site and an overall strong CT hold from Luminosity gave the Brazilian team three straight rounds. The final round was the nail in the coffin for FlipSid3 as a Luminosity take of A-site left the Ukrainian-Russian team with no further answers.
