Patch 0.2.0 Dawn of the Hunt was released on
the 4th of April 2025, Wraeclast has a new predator: Azmerian Wisps. These glowing bastards are PoE 2's first truly original mechanic - no PoE 1 leftovers here - mixing risk, chase and bloody rewards. Spawned by the Azmeri Spirit, they tear through the campaign and endgame, juicing mobs and dropping talismans you won't find anywhere else. Keep this guide handy for your next run, and check out our store for the gear you need to hunt them down. Let's take on this new Wraeclast nightmare!
What are Azmerian Wisps?
Picture them: shimmering orbs - wild, vibrant, primal, sacred - haunting the Grelwood in Act 1. They’re not your grandma’s Tormented Spirits from PoE 1; these wisps bolt when you get close, speeding up the nearer you are, slowing if you back off. Too far? They pop and vanish - loot gone. They'll lead you into chaos - buffing any monster they touch with X-Touched effects, then possessing a Rare or Unique for a Hunted by X showdown. Why it's new: PoE 1 had ghosts, but nothing chased you around the map stacking buffs and loot like this. Patch 0.2.0's ghosts are a hunt move or lose.
Mechanics: Chase or Bust
Here’s the grind: Fleeing Frenzy: Get close and they flee fast. Keep up or they're dust. Mob Buffs: Wisps tag monsters with X-touch - think extra life, crits or cold damage - making them nastier as they go. Big Finish: They'll have a Rare or Unique, slapping on Hunted by X-amped buffs plus wild abilities (spectral bears, wind whirls). Kill it, and you score big-loot scales with how many buffed mobs you drop along the way. It's a loot pinata with teeth - patch 0.2.0's risk-reward twist forces you to hunt smart, not just swing.
Wisp Types: Know Your Prey
Four flavours, each a bloody menace (details inferred from metadata, subject to day one tweaks): Wisp of the Great Bear (Wild): Bear-touched - more health, stun build-up. Hunted: Summons a pounding spectral bear. Drop bear talisman. Wisp of the Wild Cat (Vivid): Cat-Touch - Crit Chance, Dodge, Death Vortex. Hunted: Wildcat manifestation. Drops cat talisman. Wisp of the Winter Owl (Primal): Owl-Touched - Cold damage, Energy shield, Wind blast. Hunted: Multi-Vortex Chaos. Drop Owl Talisman. Wisp of the Cunning Fox (Sacred): Fox-Touched-upgrades normals to magic, magic to rares. Hunted: Turns rares into unique map bosses. Drops Fox Talisman.Variety is the spice - every wisp is a gamble. Patch 0.2.0 teases more types (boar, ox, etc) - chaos is afoot.

Talismans: New Loot, New Power
Kill a Hunted monster, snag a Talisman—PoE 2’s exclusive socketable consumables. Unlike runes or soul cores, these slot into specific equipment (such as the helmet-only Owl Talisman) for unique mods - think Health Boosts, Crit Amps, or Cold Conversion. Only Wisp Battles drop 'em - nowhere else.PoE 1 had talismans, but not this chase-driven, slot-locked system. Patch 0.2.0's crafting meta just got a spiky new toy - stack 'em early, flex late.

Atlas boosts: Juice the Hunt
Endgame’s where wisps shine—tweak ‘em via: Atlas Passives: New nodes (TBD) could increase spawn rates, slow wisps, or increase loot spec for chaos. Precursor tablets: Put these in towers - think "wisps move 20% slower" or "hunters drop extra talismans".Patch 0.2.0's Atlas revamp ties wisps to your grind - control the hunt, reap the rewards.

Playstyle: Hunt or be hunted
Spot a wisp? Chase it - kite buffed mobs, dodge hunter tricks (bear slams, cat swarms). Speed builds (Huntress, Deadeye) track better; tanks (Titan, Smith) shrug off the heat. Loot is tied to kills - miss the move, lose the loot.Dynamic, not static - PoE 1's mind buffs sat still; these make you move. Day 1 Dawn of the Hunt runs require grit - adapt or bleed.
Why Azmerian Wisps Change Everything
Azmerian Wisps are PoE 2’s middle finger to PoE 1’s stale mechanics—chase-driven, buff-stacking, Talisman-dropping chaos that’s all-new for Dawn of the Hunt. They hit campaign (Act 1 Grelwood) and endgame (Azmeri Ranges map) with equal ferocity, forcing you to play smart, not just hard. Patch 0.2.0's living spirits are loose, the loot is ripe, and Wraeclast is a hunting ground. Get out there and bleed 'em dry!
